Legal Technology Resolution #4 – Updating Your Software

When was last time you updated your software?

The reason why we ask is that most software releases come out annually or sometimes even more frequently.

It’s incredibly important to make sure you don’t fall behind because upgrading is not just about access to new features, it’s also about protecting your business.

Here are our top three reasons we suggest upgrading your software:

  1. Increased Security

Keeping your software up-to-date on the most current version makes your data less vulnerable to online hackers. Most software upgrades include a cybersecurity upgrade and since the newest version is also the most sophisticated, it adjusts for any potential open holes that hackers may have been able to take advantage of in previous versions. Making sure that every user in your firm is on the most current version of your software is your first and oftentimes strongest defense against cyberattacks.

2. Take Advantage of New Features

Fulfilling the everyday needs of clients is a vendor and consultant’s top priority. Consultants and software developers frequently communicate to ensure that their clients are getting the most out of the product. Because of this feedback loop vocalizing the ever-changing needs of the modern firm, many software companies add new features with every new release. If you are on an old version of a program and there is something you wish the software could do, reach out to your consultant, because your desired functionality may exist on a newer version.

3. Keep your business running like a well-oiled machine

At the end of the day, your software should be speeding up your internal processes and helping your office run more efficiently. If you notice that your software is slowing you down, it may be time to upgrade. Without regular updates, software programs are not able to properly communicate with new technology, stealing valuable time away when you are constantly troubleshooting technical issues. Making sure that your software stays on the most current version to keep up with your fast-paced office is essential to making sure things continue to run smoothly.
